I got to make a skateboard cake for Gavin’s 6th Birthday. I wanted to experiment a bit with different buttercream textures, and I love the way this cake turned out. I made the cake in the general shape of a skateboard and even curved the edges up a bit. The entire cake was supported on skateboard shaped boards so it could be displayed on wheels if so chosen. I did not make the trucks and wheels however as I need to take a refresher “shop” class to familiarize myself with the power tools we have in the garage. It would have been fun to rush off to the hardware store in search of a cool way to build supports. Baby steps, I’m finally getting to the point where I’m more confident in my decorating skills, next I need to work on my photography, and finally I will need to figure out cool construction techniques for displays.
